Rotary President Jim Steele (left) presented the Business Leader plaque. Plaques are on display in the Community Room of Commercial Trust Company.

The recipient of this year’s 2015 Business Leader of the Year is a relatively recent resident of this area. A native of Maysville, Missouri, near St. Joseph, she was the youngest of three in her family which includes an older brother and an older sister. While in high school, she took part in gymnastics, golf, and track, graduating in 2003 — and then headed off to Warrensburg to attend the University of Central Missouri. Our honoree graduated there in 2007 with a bachelor of science degree in physical education (with an emphasis on exercise science), and it was while at UCM that she also met her future husband, Robby.
Originally intending to be an athletic trainer, our recipient had gotten a taste of a closely-related profession and so decided that she would better enjoy rehabilitation work as a physical therapist. Accepted for graduate work at the University of Kansas Medical Center, she served as a graduate research assistant for two years until earning a doctorate in physical therapy in January 2010. Following graduation, she worked about a year-and-a-half as a physical therapist for Research Medical Center in Kansas City until joining the staff of Peak Performance (now Peak Sport & Spine) in January 2012. For a brief time she was assigned to Bothwell Memorial Hospital in Sedalia and Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville. Approximately three years ago, she was promoted to Peak’s facility in Fayette as physical therapist and clinic director. Not long afterward, she and Robby purchased a small farm near New Franklin where they enjoy gardening and fishing. Since moving to Howard County, our honoree has entered into the life of the community. In addition to active membership in Rotary, she is a member of the LTS Study Club and the P.E.O sisterhood. I’m sure that by now you’ve figured-out the identity of this year’s  recipient. So please join me in welcoming Fayette Rotary’s 2015 Business Leader of the Year, Rachel Stockdale Hanson.
