Message from the President

November 1, 2017

Trivia, Chili and Silent Auction – Bring Your Signature Chili or Soup:  Save the date. We have scheduled our Trivia Night for Saturday evening on February 3, 2018.  Last year’s event was a success and raised more than $2000 for the club.  We will need more volunteers to bring chili this year to make sure we don’t run out again.   Hopefully we can continue to improve this event and increase the fund raising.   Boonville notified us that their trivia night will be on March 10.  Ideally our Rotary clubs will support each other.

Food Pantry Volunteers Will Be Needed During the 1st and 3rd Weeks of December.  We will be passing a sign up list at November meetings.  Packing will be done on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm on Dec 5th and 19th.  Distribution will be on Thursdays, Dec. 7th and 21st.  Our Happy can donations during the month of November will go to the Fayette Ministerial Alliance.

21 Fayette Rotary Friendship Trees  have been donated to us by Forest Releaf of Missouri to be planted at various public places in the area during the next few days.  All of the trees are native Missouri oaks, including black, northern red, chinkapin, burr, swamp white, pin, and scarlet oaks.  Some will be planted at the schools, park, and fairgrounds.  There may be some left, so let us know if you have a suggestion for a planting location. This project is part of a worldwide effort by Rotary International to express concern about environmental stewardship, sustainability, and conservation of natural resources.  It also commemorates the work of Paul Harris more than 80 years ago when he initiated a project for planting thousands of ‘friendship trees’ all over the world.

Polio Plus Donations Will Be Collected During November.  Remember that every donation through Rotary will be doubled by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.  Any checks should be made out to Fayette Rotary with Polio Plus in the memo line.  The club will send in the total amount collected with member names and donation amounts indicated.  IRS letters will be sent to each individual.

Fairground Seating Project Near Completion – The new seating unit was purchased by Fayette Rotary, assembled by FHS students, and will soon be ready to put in place.  Gale Schafer wrote the grant application,  arranged the assembly, and made a sign to indicate that it is a Fayette Rotary service project.  The bleachers look great and will serve for many years.

New Reflective Rotary Road Signs have been ordered and will soon be installed on the north Highway 5 and south Highway 240 approaches to Fayette.  The old signs were in poor condition.

* No Rotary Meetings on November 22nd,  December 20(Meet at the Lembke’s at 6 pm) or 27th.  Enjoy the holidays!
