The
seventy years of service celebration for the Fayette Rotary Club was
observed on February 24, 2007. The whole affair was organized and
arranged by Martha Holman and several other persons.
Fayette
Rotary 2006-7 President Keith Keeling
opened the program with information about the evening and the
introduction of Jim Steele, who provided a factual accounting of the
seventy year Club History. (Jim’s
complete presentation is available on the Club History page. Jim
referenced many of the club presidents and there is a complete listing
on this website – Past-Presidents.)
The event was held at the Central Methodist University Student and
Community Center. Fresh Ideas, the university food service catered
the event. Larry Leech gave the invocation.

The Affton CenterStage Theatre Company provided the evening's
entertainment with the play entitled W.U.R.S.T., written by Rob Corbett.
This well-known St. Louis area group donated their services for the
event. “Murder in the W.U.R.S.T” — written by Rob Corbett —

Rob was actually a
stand-in for one of the parts on this particular evening. The Affton CenterStage Theatre Co.
was established in St.
Louis in 1991.
The company
is under direction of well-known Central Methodist
University graduate Judy Rethwisch and several of her students.
Rethwisch, a member of the class of 1965, received a Distinguished
Alumni Citation last year from CMU.
She is semi-retired after more than 30 years of service as a drama and
theater arts teacher at Affton High School. The school several years ago
named a gymnasium in her honor.
The evening continued with the madcap comedy
W.U.R.S.T. Shown below are two scenes from the production.

The St. Louis area group staged the benefit dinner theater production as
part of a fund raiser to support the Fayette Swimming Pool Restoration
Fund. More than 100 persons were in attendance.
